Tackle Open Pores with the Obagi Blue Peel at North West Aesthetics
Have you noticed small dimple-like pits in your skin – perhaps around your cheeks, or T-Zone?
These hollows are actually open pores, and may appear larger on the face than other areas of the body due to the high levels of sebum- an oil like substance- stimulated in the glands of facial pores.
In addition to sebum production, open pores can also be caused by thick hair follicles, over-exposure to the sun, or made more visible in ageing skin as collagen levels and elasticity decrease.
Open pores can affect all skin types, often giving the skin a lacklustre appearance – particularly if the pores are clogged with oil, dead skin cells, or topical products left to sit on the skin. While they can’t be ‘closed’, there are treatments available to reduce the visibility of open pores, and make them appear smaller for skin that is clearer, and more vibrant.
Here at North West Aesthetics, we recommend peel treatments to achieve this result, and are pleased to offer a wide variety of peel procedures by some of the world’s most renowned brands – including the Blue Peel by Obagi.

How Can Obagi Blue Help?
As part of a leading and widely-recognised brand, the versatile Obagi Blue Peel system is ideal for achieving traditional and tailored results to rejuvenate the complexion and condition of the skin.
Obagi Blue is a medium-depth peel, utilising a a low concentration of Trichloroacetic Acid mixed with a blue base to ensure even distribution across the face, and regulate peel depth as appropriate for individual requirements. Beneficial in a variety of skin complaint scenarios, Obagi Blue can reveal skin that is firmer, smoother and clearer, with a reduction in the visibility of superficial blemishes and pigmentation.

The Process
Once the Obagi Blue Peel treatment has been deemed the most appropriate procedure for you, your skin will require six weeks of preparation with the Obagi Nu-Derm system, to ensure it is in its best condition for treatment, and that the results achieved can be maintained.
Prior to treatment, a topical anaesthetic will be administered to ensure maximum comfort during the procedure. Your treatment should last no longer than forty-five minutes, but this will depend on the number of coats considered necessary to alleviate your skin complaints by Dr David Taylor and the clinic team.
The number of peel sessions you require will depend on the severity of the skin concern – some clients may require just one treatment, while others may benefit from regular peels for the management of an ongoing condition.
Post-procedure, your skin should begin to peel within three days, and can continue to do so for up to one week, as fresh skin with a healthier and more youthful appearance is revealed. This period of one to two weeks should be treated as downtime, as you may experience some redness, sensitivity, and often a blue tinge to the skin, due to the depth of the peel.
