Also commonly known as “lipstick lines” or “pucker lines,” smoker’s lines are fine wrinkles on the lips that tend to affect the upper lip more predominantly, radiating out from the border of the lip. Although they are usually referred to as “smoker’s lines”, anyone can develop them whether they smoke or otherwise, although smoking does tend to worsen the situation. A loss of volume in the lips as a result of ageing, as well as repetitive muscular activity and other contributing factors affect the severity of these lines.
Anti-wrinkle treatments have been found to be an effective option, minimising the appearances of the smoker’s lines by blocking nerve signals to the orbicularis oris muscle in the lips while still allowing for facial movement.
Sometimes, if your smoker’s lines are quite deep, treatment with dermal fillers is a great option, in order to achieve optimum results.
